Our new neighbours

This post has been a while in the making purely because it has taken me a few weeks to, paparazzi style, snatch a photograph of our new neighbours - camera shy doesn't even get close!

Backing up a bit last fall hubby, for want of something better to do, decided to build a birdhouse (this was in pre-gnome house days) and place it in the middle of the garden. OK I admit it ,I never really liked it (more for the 2x4 he put it on, than for the house itself.

And even in mid-winter it stands out proud!

The one thing that we both silently agreed on was that it would never get used as a bird house ,and I could always try and get a clematis or something to climb up it.

Move on to today and it has weathered well and looks perfectly at home even without the clematis.

But in truth, as with any house, it isn't really what you think, it's all about the homeowner and whether they are happy with it. Well I am pleased to report with all the happy chirping and all the evidence that they are already raising a happy young family there let me introduce the new neighbours!

Mr & Mrs House Wren are exceedingly happy in their new home, are too busy to accept visitors, and would be much delighted if the idiot with the camera would leave them alone, but are happy to have as many bugs disturbed as they can collect.

Somehow I reckon with a zillion toads and this happy brood insecticides are not required this summer!

And what can I say of the man I married, that Harley riding, leather clad gent who the first day I spotted our new residents was heard to say "Ooohhh that has made my day!". Oh my, what have I done to this man who now names flowers in Latin with a flourish and has his day made by birds moving into his birdhouse!
