Who needed the one that got away .......

I did something today that I have never done before and never wanted to but it was fun! The Lake had a fishing competition for kids so I invited April and her little boy Andrew out to fish as unlike me I know they do enjoy the "excitement" of sitting watching a piece of thread disappear into the water!

As it turned out I may not have fished or taken the sport to heart but the fun of the competition did brighten my day. Having stepped outside this morning to discover the humidity levels through the roof again it was with some trepidation I headed to the beach (OK 20' of imported sand but it IS called the beach) only to discover that if you get to the waters edge there is a breeze and clean air - YAY the day was already looking up.

Sunshine and water - perfect

It's round about now that I should admit that April and Andrew brought with them a secret weapon, and it certainly wasn't me! Bring on Uncle Ricky.

First get Uncle Ricky to help you bait and cast your line

Take some tips from the expert

Wait awhile patiently
with some words of encouragement from Mom

and get ready to reel her in

the one that didn't get away

then enlist a new friend to take you to the weigh station

Then come back and do it

Again

and Again

AND AGAIN

In total Andrew landed eight fish and won the prize for catching the most fish! Not everyone was impressed. This little girl fishing just ten feet from where we were fishing visibly seethed as Andrew landed his second.

you've either got it or you haven't

But walking off and leaving that spot may have been that little girls biggest mistake as not five minutes after she left fishing in exactly the same spot this little boy

Yes he really is using the cheapest of cheap pink Barbie fishing rod

caught this beast

a lot of folk assisted in landing it

perhaps because it was almost as big as the kid that caught it

Yes it did win the biggest fish of the day!

So then it was back to the pavilion for some tucker

and to collect some prizes

And the lesson of the day for me was that whilst I might never get enthusiastic about fishing to spend some time with friends is fun whatever and the look on Andrew's face after he collected his prize was priceless joy. Come back soon Mr Andrew and I will gladly watch you play in the playground, heck bring a bucket and spade and I might even be persuaded to build you a sandcastle! Yup it was fun.
